Arazzo ‘Nothing Happens if Nothing Happens’ di Antonio Barbieri

The site-specific tapestry by Antonio Barbieri for Isola Design Gallery, in collaboration with MaVoix Exclusive Wallpaper.

A Work That Vibrates Between Nature, Technology, and Imagination

During Milan Design Week 2023, contemporary artist Antonio Barbieri presents the tapestry NOTHING HAPPENS IF NOTHING HAPPENS at Isola Design Gallery, in collaboration with MaVoix Exclusive Wallpaper.
A visual intervention that merges nature and the digital realm, printed on MaVoix Madreperla paper—a metallized surface that vibrates and transforms with every variation of light.

A Tapestry as a Living Organism

A Metaphysical Environment in Dialogue with Space

In this work, Barbieri explores the environmental processes that generate and transform form.
Through the collection of organic elements, 3D scanning, and digital modeling, a hybrid construct emerges—a complex “vegetal” morphology that holds memory, energy, and the changing rhythms of the natural world.

The result is a suspended landscape in constant metamorphosis.

The tapestry is conceived in direct relation to the distinctive architecture of the loft at Via Pastrengo 14.
Through the use of artificial intelligence, Antonio Barbieri develops a metaphysical and utopian environment inspired by the festival’s key themes: metaphysics, theatrical set design, and Giorgio de Chirico.

His work becomes a mental stage set—a visual portal suspended between reality and imagination.

Madreperla: the Surface That Amplifies the Vision

For the tapestry, the Madreperla surface was selected—one of the seven supports developed by MaVoix.
Its composition brings together:

  • silk threads
  • silver lamination
  • iridescent pearlescent reflections

This luminous material enhances the artwork’s three-dimensionality, wrapping its nuances like a living skin.
